The New Mutants are a group of teenage mutants from across the world who were first introduced into the Marvel Universe in the '80s by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod with THE NEW MUTANTS.

Dive into their origins with this Meet the New Mutants guide!

These poor teens had their abilities all triggered by totally tragic events, yikes. So let's get right into it — who comprised the original New Mutants you ask?

Roll call!

Rahne Sinclair AKA Wolfsbane — a total nightmare...werewolf. One of the New Mutants founding members, Rahne Sinclair alternates between a religious Scottish teen and a werewolf. Needless to say this dichotomy presents a ton of Catholic Guilt.

Xi'an Shan Coy Manh AKA Karma — Vietnamese-born Xi'an "Shan" Coy Manh realized she could possess another person or animal's mind. Luckily for her, she was able to overcome her legacy of violence (the niece of a Madripoorian crime lord) to become a dedicated Mutant and educator!

Sam Guthrie AKA Cannonball — Kentuckian coal miner Sam Guthrie discovered he could create this energy around his body that lets him fly as a fast as a jet while projecting a force field.

Danielle Moonstar AKA Mirage/Moonstar — Native American Dani Moonstar has the ability to cast illusions or project people's nightmares. Not only that, she can even create weapons from her own mind, rad!

Roberto de Costa AKA Sunspot — Brazilian rich kid Roberto de Costa, who has a penchant for being a hothead literally and figuratively , can channel solar energy into becoming a powerhouse of unbelievable strength.

Illyana Rasputin AKA Magik — You will not guess who Illyana's big bro is! That's right, Colossus, can you believe! This sorceress of great repute has the ability to teleport.

Doug Ramsey AKA Cypher — Doug Ramsey has the ability to decipher any language, spoken, written or binary. Flash forward, Doug is the creator and keeper of Krakoan, mutantkind's very own language that is spoken throughout their island nation.

Amara Aquilla AKA Magma — The totally badass multilingual Amara Aquilla has the power to control geothermal activities including tectonic plates and even lava. And in her Magma form, she is a mutant volcano capable of projecting orbs of fire!

Warlock — Technically, Warlock is a 'techno-organic' alien being but that's neither here nor there because also a New Mutant!
