‘Reborn: Ultimate Impact’ #1 Preview Introduces New Heroes & Villains Crashing Into Earth-616

The Ultimate Universe might be ending in Ultimate Endgame, but its legacy unfolds in the pages of REBORN: ULTIMATE IMPACT by Chris Condon and Stefano Caselli! When the Maker tried to create a world without heroes, he weaponized Origin Boxes to rob costumed crimefighters of their destinies in that nascent reality.

Following Miles Morales’ romp through the new Ultimate Universe in Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion, Spider-Man returned to the main Marvel Universe, entrusted with the Origin Boxes. Now, in REBORN: ULTIMATE IMPACT #1, Spider-Man must ensure that these powerful artifacts don’t fall into the wrong hands, as whoever opens an Origin Box receives the power set of the hero (or villain) it contains! MARVEL.COM: Where do we meet Miles Morales in REBORN: ULTIMATE IMPACT? How have the events of ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN: INCURSION impacted him?

CONDON: Miles is aware of the power he now possesses in the Origin Boxes, and that's where we pick up our story - he wants to find someone he can trust to take things over from him. Miles seeks out a fellow hero to help better guard these powerful catalysts, but unfortunately, Miles isn't the only person aware of the Origin Boxes and their power (as seen in Miles Morales: Spider-Man #42). Cue: trouble!

MARVEL.COM: The Ultimate Universe provides a fun sandbox for reimaging existing characters. In REBORN: ULTIMATE IMPACT, you introduce the Ultimate Universe’s take on Annihilus’ story. What can you tell us about the lore here?

CONDON: Behold, great Hostilicus! I love this character. Hostilicus isn't Annihilus himself; he's a descendant, of a sort. The Cult of Annihilus is locked in a forever war with a rival religious cult, Blastaar's Children. Hostilicus is the great warrior leader of his cult, wearing bits and pieces of petrified Annihilus into battle. He's a fanatical, powerful, and cunning villain. I'm not sure the Marvel Universe is ready for him...

MARVEL.COM: The Origin Boxes are set to unleash chaos throughout the 616, giving powers to those who will open them. What can you tease about the new characters we’ll meet in REBORN: ULTIMATE IMPACT?

CONDON: There are quite a few, and I love them all. We have Sightseer, who can see beyond the veil. We have Mogul, who is unstoppably persuasive as a media executive. We have Wonder Man, who hails from my home state of New Jersey (and, yes, this is his most important attribute). These characters, including Hostilicus, will enter into the 616 Universe and find themselves up against Marvel's greatest heroes (and anti-heroes). What you will see is an action-packed five-part story that is thrilling, intriguing, and, most importantly, fun.

MARVEL.COM: What was it like working with fellow Ultimate Universe architect Stefano Caselli (Ultimate Black Panther) on this new story that deals with the fallout from that universe?

CONDON: Oh, boy. Stefano is a legend in my eyes, so it was a thrill to collaborate with him and build what we think is a truly great series, introducing a set of fantastic new heroes and villains who, we hope, will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with their tried-and-true counterparts. It's great fun to create this new corner of the Marvel Universe with him, and it's thrilling to see him take my black-and-white descriptions and breathe life into them.
