Biography

Biography

Kronos, the Monarch of the Eternals is also a philosopher and scientist. He leads the Eternals on Titanos, studies the universe and eventually becomes one with it, overseeing the Eternals as a benevolent god. His time as a leader results in an inclination towards protection and as such, becomes a defender of the universe, typically safeguarding it from his familial relations.

First of the Eternals

Kronos is among the first of the Eternals, an evolutionary offshoot of humanity created by the experiments of the enigmatic Celestials. Finding himself at odds with his tyrannical brother Uranos, Kronos leads a faction of Eternals in a civil war, eventually prevailing, and exiling his brother into space. Uranos and his followers colonize the planet that becomes known as Uranus. During the war, The Eternal city Titanos on Earth is devastated, and Kronos, distraught at the deaths of his people, swears never to practice war again.

Under Kronos’ leadership, Titanos is rebuilt to even greater glory than it had previously known. He devotes himself to his family, his wife, Daina and their two sons, Zuras and A’Lars, and dedicates most of his time to studying the universe, immersing himself in science seeking to benefit his people.

Circa 3000 BC, Kronos isolates the cosmic energy that empowered the Eternals, but his containment vessel ruptures and explodes, disintegrating Kronos and again destroying Titanos. Kronos now exists as a disembodied cosmic entity whose life force and consciousness expand throughout the solar system, while the remaining Eternals’ powers increase by the explosion’s energies.

Zuras becomes the Eternals’ leader and A’Lars takes his leave to prevent disunity, who eventually settles on Saturn’s moon Titan (initially founded by surviving former Uranos followers). Kronos becomes the patron of Titan and continues to guide A’Lars as his son assumes the mantle of Mentor.

Though Kronos continues to look after the Eternals for a time, serving as a benevolent god, he slowly loses interest in the material world as his essence expands.

Far-Reaching Cosmic Power

Kronos possesses cosmic power on a level incomprehensible to human beings. He creates artificial beings from inanimate matter and exercises power over the souls of mortals. He can project destructive energy blasts and manipulate the flow of time. Though he can manifest himself in a humanoid form, Kronos is a disembodied entity; his insubstantial form is constantly expanding in space. His cosmic senses are far-reaching, and he is immune to physical injury.

Eternal Enemies

Kronos’ family includes his tyrannical brother Uranos, who he is typically at odds with. Kronos leads a civil war against Uranos and his followers, wins the war and exiles his brother along with his traitorous company.

Thanos, Kronos’ grandson, threatens to destroy half the people in the universe, so Kronos resurrects Thanos’ victim Arthur Douglas, and makes him Drax the Destroyer whose sole purpose is to slay Thanos.

Kith and Kin

After the civil war on Titanos, Kronos marries Daina and they sire two sons Zuras and A’Lars who eventually go on to marry Cybele and Sui-San respectively. Zuras and Cybele have Thena, Kronos’ granddaughter, who grows up to bear twins, Deborah and Donald Ritter, with the Deviant Warlord Kro. Thanos and Eros, AKA Starfox, are the sons of A’Lars and Sui-San with Starfox being the youngest son. Starfox grows up to work alongside the Avengers, while Thanos attempts to conquer the universe.

As Monarch of the Eternals, Kronos leads his people on Titanos and safeguards them from tyranny. When he becomes a disembodied cosmic entity after an accident that he causes which destroys Titanos, he becomes a benevolent god, overseeing the Eternals, and his watch extends over the rest of the universe as well.

Kronos’ Chronicles

Many centuries later, when his grandson Thanos threatened the universe, his father Mentor contacted his own father Kronos seeking help. As such, Kronos resurrected and empowered one of Thanos’ human victims, Arthur Douglas, as Drax the Destroyer, with the sole purpose of killing Thanos. Nonetheless, Thanos defeated Drax and soon obtained a Cosmic Cube, gaining near-omnipotent power. Fearing Kronos’ interference, Thanos used the Cube to render Kronos powerless and immobile. Thanos then used the Cube to merge with the universe, hoping to become all-powerful. Mar-Vell, AKA Captain Marvel, eventually shattered the Cube, stripping Thanos of his power. Thanos and Drax both later perished in unrelated conflicts.

Kronos continued to grow bored with existence and sought the abstract entity Infinity, the embodiment of space. During this quest, he encountered the Deviant-Inhuman hybrid Maelstrom, who had also been rendered discorporate. Unaware of Maelstrom’s identity, Kronos informed him of Infinity and other cosmic entities, unintentionally inspiring Maelstrom to seek out these entities as power sources. Later, when Wendell Vaughn, AKA Quasar, acted as Infinity’s representative and defeated Maelstrom, Kronos briefly glimpsed Infinity, gaining much satisfaction.

When Thanos was resurrected by Death and tasked with destroying half of the universe’s life-forms, Kronos resurrected Drax to combat Thanos once again, but was only able to fully restore Drax’s body, while his mind remained childlike.

After Thanos gathered the six Infinity Gems into the Infinity Gauntlet and became virtually all-powerful, Kronos was among the many cosmic entities present when Eternity asked the Living Tribunal to intervene. After the Tribunal refused, Kronos joined the armada of cosmic entities in assaulting Thanos, briefly sending him careening through time until Thanos rallied and defeated the entire group, freezing them in suspended animation.

Kronos and his fellow cosmic beings were freed after Nebula stole the Gauntlet from Thanos, but she quickly defeated and imprisoned them again. Ultimately, Adam Warlock entered the Soul Gem and disrupted the Gauntlet, causing Nebula to cast it off, and then seized the Gauntlet himself, releasing the cosmic entities.

Later Heather Douglas, AKA Moondragon, Drax’s surviving daughter, mentally summoned Kronos and beseeched him to restore Drax’s intelligence. Kronos refused, prompting Moondragon to attack him. Though appalled at her effrontery, he was touched by the affection Moondragon and Drax shared and agreed to restore Drax’s mind. This restoration was initially unstable, but Drax later regained his intellect after being destroyed and reborn.
