Mittens is a loveable cockapoo who goes from living at an animal shelter to having a marvelous life living with Super Heroes, thanks to her heroic owner Kamala Khan, AKA Ms. Marvel!
When the 2-year-old cockapoo Mittens sleeps at the Best Buds animal shelter, she experiences a “meet cute” like no other when Super Hero Ms. Marvel crashes through the building while battling Super Villain Sergei Kravinoff, AKA Kraven the Hunter. Ms. Marvel releases all the animals from their cages, including Mittens, to protect them from the battle. But Mittens stays behind to provide a needed distraction that allows Ms. Marvel to trap Kraven in a nearby cage. The pair fall in love and Ms. Marvel adopts Mittens. Ms. Marvel takes Mittens to her new home at Avengers Mansion where she meets the other pooch pals of Earth’s Greatest Heroes and collectively they are known as The Mutts.
Unlike her fellow Mutts, Mittens is without super-powers. But what she lacks in powers, she makes up in personality. While she can be a diva, requiring the most pets possible, she is a loyal ally to Ms. Marvel and her canine companions, the Mutts.
While napping, Mittens encounters one of her earliest enemies at the dog shelter, the notorious game hunter Kraven the Hunter! But she stands her ground and helps a hero trap him in the process.
Adopted by Ms. Marvel, Mittens meets other dogs affiliated with the Avengers and their allies, such as the Inhuman teleporter and bulldog Lockjaw, the elderly basset hound from the beyond, Bats, keeper of the peace on the streets of New York, Lucky the Pizza Dog, and Cosmo the Soviet Spacedog. While Ms. Marvel seems to take personal responsibility over all the Mutts, she often shares her dog mom duties with fellow Super Heroes Miles Morales, AKA Spider-Man, America Chavez, AKA America, and Gwen Poole, AKA Gwenpool.
When Mittens met other Avengers’ canine companions, each one introduced her to their respective super-powers. In return, Mittens, being one without any powers, showed off her squeaky Captain America plush toy. Her fellow canines were impressed. The group then fell asleep to Ms. Marvel reading “The Daily Doggie.”
Later, Mittens and Lockjaw then enjoyed playing fetch with Ms. Marvel and America by traveling through the latter’s star-shaped interdimensional portals.
On the night before Christmas, Mittens discovered a Santa Claus imposter in the form of Gwenpool who had their eye on Santa’s cookies. Mittens attacked and the pair caused such a commotion, it woke up the whole mansion.
When New Year’s Eve rolled around, some fireworks scared Mittens, leading her to run away. Though her human friends and fellow Mutts found her. Miles kindly webbed up her ears, just as he did for the other dogs, so that the sound of the explosions wouldn’t be so bothersome.
Mittens got ahold of the Infinity Gauntlet and Ms. Marvel, America, Miles, and Gwenpool all tried to coax her to give it back with toys and treats, but nothing worked. It wasn’t until they made her a candlelit dinner that she became uninterested in it and left it behind for dinner.
When Doreen Green, AKA Squirrel Girl, and her squirrel partner Tippy Toe visited Avengers Mansion, Mittens and the other Mutts were playing around only to find a stray orange kitten stuck in a nearby tree. Lockjaw teleported the kitty to the ground below. Suddenly, a giant ant appeared only to be sucked into the kitten’s mouth via tentacles. The kitty turned out to be a Flerken, a race that looks like domesticated cats capable of storing pocket universes within themselves.
While at the dog park, Mittens and the other Mutts encountered Devil Dinosaur, who was altogether too large to play games with the much smaller pooches. Mittens noticed that Devil felt left out, so she shared her ball and they found commonality.
One day, Mittens was feeling particularly in need of pets, following Ms. Marvel around the mansion as she went about her day. But Ms. Marvel was called away on important hero business, leaving Mittens alone and sad. But sure enough, Ms. Marvel made time for Mittens amidst a battle with some nefarious alien attackers.
One night when Mittens and the Mutts slept soundly, Mittens dreamt of fighting heavyweight rats but struggled to defeat them. Waking up from the nightmare, she decided to snuggle up next to Lockjaw. Asleep once again, she returned to her dream, which saw all her pup pals by her side dressed in super-hero duds and ready to take on the rats together.
When Ms. Marvel was busy doing hero stuff, Mittens and the other Mutts were placed in the care of Fantastic Four ally Johnny Storm, AKA Human Torch, at the Baxter Building. But Johnny had to run an errand and left H.E.R.B.I.E. in charge. Things went all kinds of sideways, with Cosmo taking the Fantasticar out for a spin, Bats getting blasted by an anti-phaser that froze him in place, and Mittens taking the Thing Suit out for a wall-smashing walk. But things calmed down as soon as Johnny returned with food.
