Determined to declare war on mutants because of a prophecy, Ord spends his life fighting to be chosen and one day, he fulfills his destiny.
Ord hails from the planet Breakworld, home to a warrior culture. In a mad plot to end her people’s suffering and violence, the compassionate Aghanne creates a false prophecy and makes her loyal augurs (“timeshadows”) foretell that their planet would be destroyed by an Earth mutant, most likely a member of the X-Men team. For decades, Ord fights and wins in many arena-style battles for the honor of being chosen to travel to Earth with a declaration of war.
Ord possessed enhanced senses, superhuman strength (lifting 25 tons) and enhanced speed. His alien physiology made him durable enough to survive for a short time in space and withstand temperatures up to 1600 Fahrenheit. Injuries sustained during battle were healed within days through a natural healing factor.
Ord is a formidable hand-to-hand combatant, having decades of fighting experience. During his mission on Earth he wears a suit of body armor that allows him to fly, reflect energy attacks, and withstand nearly any physical attack directed at him. He also wields a circular weapon with barbed blades that he claims could cut through any substance on Earth.
Ord’s foremost enemies are mutants and one in particular, Piotr Rasputin, AKA Colossus, whom he believes would be responsible for the end of his homeworld, a belief based on a prophecy. Reviving Colossus from his death, Ord tortures him and attempts to lead Colossus into fulfilling the prophecy. Ord goes up against the X-Men in his attempt to protect his homeworld and end the mutant threat.
Ord works closely with Benetech geneticist Dr. Kavita Rao to lure the X-Men out and threaten them. He then allies with Danger to kill Colossus.
The spy agency Sentient Worlds Observation and Response Department (S.W.O.R.D.), a sub-division of S.H.I.E.L.D. that handles extraterrestrial matters, was able to diplomatically settle with him by offering him a chance to eradicate the mutant gene, while they would seek to identify the mutant that would be responsible for Breakworld’s destruction.
In order to fulfill his end of the bargain, Ord secretly stole the body of Colossus, a former member of the X-Men, before it was due to be cremated. Using his advanced alien technology, Ord had Colossus restored to life and kept him prisoner while experimenting on him. Ultimately, Ord discovered the cure to the Legacy virus still in Colossus’ system and presented his findings to Benetech geneticist Dr. Kavita Rao, who was able to modify it into creating a “cure” for the “mutant condition.” As Rao appeared in front of the world media to announce the cure, Ord hoped to flush out the X-Men and staged a hostage situation at a charity gala. True to form, the X-Men arrived to save the hostages and confronted Ord. Making short work of the heroes, Ord was driven off by the timely arrival of the alien dragon Lockheed, ally of the X-Man Kate “Kitty” Pryde, AKA Shadowcat (later Kate Pryde), who engulfed Ord’s head in flames, causing him to flee.
Seeking revenge, Ord stole into the Xavier Institute to find that the X-Men had left to investigate Benetech. Wanting to leave the X-Men a message, Ord injected the young student Edward Tancredi, AKA Wing, with the “cure,” removing the boy’s powers and instructing him to tell the X-Men that the mutant abomination would never be a threat to the Breakworld. Ord then returned to Benetech and confronted the X-Men; however, another timely arrival—Colossus, who had been found and freed by Shadowcat—saw him defeated once more. S.H.I.E.L.D.’s head Colonel Nick Fury and S.W.O.R.D.’s special agent Abigail Thanriaguiaxus, AKA Abigail Brand, arrived to defuse the situation, but while explanations were being made, mutants desperate to obtain the cure stormed the facility, allowing Ord to escape in the confusion. The X-Men prevented him from leaving Earth in his spacecraft, and he was taken into custody by S.W.O.R.D.
