Biography

Outraged at the injustices of the Depression, Peter B. Parker's anger is matched only by his impassioned goal to prove his Uncle Ben was murdered by the Goblin and his goons. Driven by the idealism and values his Aunt May and Uncle Ben instilled in him, Peter believes that if those in power can’t be trusted, then it’s the responsibility of the people to remove them. When he's bitten by a poisonous exotic spider, Peter gains mystifying new abilities to take down the corrupt and he’s reborn as the Spider-Man.

Spider-Man Noir

On Earth-90214 in the heart of New York City during the 1930s, Peter B. Parker loses his Uncle Ben to the Goblin and his carnie cronies. He then dedicates his time helping others at the houseless shelter that his Aunt May runs. While attending a rally where his Aunt May speaks out against the corrupt system that runs their city, Peter’s passion for justice catches the eye of Ben Urich, a photographer at The Daily Bugle. When Goblin’s Enforcers attack May and Peter, Ben defends the pair, and ultimately takes Peter under his wing at the Bugle.

Peter confides in Ben about finding his uncle Ben killed and torn apart with rope marks on his body. He blames the Goblin’s cronies and seeks to bring them to justice.

When Peter discovers Ben is a heroin addict, drugged and unable to answer his phone, he gets a tip meant for the “Spider” that leads him to Goblin’s goons at the Rooney Imports Warehouse on the pier. It’s here that they’re picking up a shipment of antiques previously headed to the Metropolitan Museum, and in dropping one of the containers, a bunch of spiders are let loose. One of them bites Peter and tells him a bite brings death to those of evil intent, but will bestow the curse of power on him instead. Peter receives arachnid-like abilities from the bite and becomes the Spider-Man.

Mystical Spider-Bite

After being bitten by a spider-like God, Peter possesses enhanced strength, speed, reflexes, agility and durability. He can shoot liquid silk out of his wrists to maneuver in between buildings and rooftops, and create webs and nets from it as well. He can also crawl up walls with little effort. He also has a spider-sense, which alerts him to dangers unseen.

He wears a mask with goggles to hide his identity and dons a durable Kevlar uniform that can withstand bullets and explosions. He occasionally uses a revolver and Tommy gun to injure or take down criminal elements.

Crooked Cops and Corrupt Politicians

New York’s top racketeer Norman Osborn, nicknamed the Goblin, is a freelance agent that works for the highest bidder. He operates openly out of Osborn Enterprises located in a penthouse suite in downtown Manhattan. The Goblin’s Muscle includes The Enforcers: Kraven, Cameleon, Vulture, Ox, Fancy Dan, and Montana who are all former carnies.

New York City’s government, members of the police, and leading businessman are all corrupt, making deals with the likes of the Goblin to control their fair city. Some head honchos include Jimmy Stryder, the Mayor of New York who also cheats on his wife; Detective Rian from the Vice Squad has dealings with Emilio Alcuno, who runs half the brothers in the city; and Adolfus Crane, an industrialist that runs sweatshops.

The Inheritors are a totemic race that eat animals and Spider-People. Their existence and hunger threatens the entire Multiverse of Spider-Totems, including the Spider-Man, who joins the Spider-Army against them. Though his battle comes to an end against the Inheritor Morlun.

Familial Bonds and Colleagues

May Parker, Peter’s aunt, is a rabble rouser herself and together they run the Bowery Welfare Center where they give the houseless a hot meal and shelter from the cold.

Ben Urich, the star photojournalist for The Daily Bugle has a network of informants that call him the Spider. He gets Peter an entry-level job at the Bugle where Peter shadows his work. There Peter meets the Editor-in-Chief, J. Jonah Jameson. Jonah becomes Peter’s boss and sounds the clarion call for liberty and equality in newsstands across the city.

Felicia Hardy is the owner of The Black Cat, a decadent speakeasy where corrupt politicians and police officers mingle. She helps Peter uncover the truth about Ben and Goblin’s crooked operations, and they share a romantic dalliance.

When all the Spider-Heroes in the Multiverse find themselves hunted by the vampiric Inheritors, the Spider-Man joins both the Superior Spider-Army and the Spider-Army led by Billy Braddock, AKA Spider-UK. Once defeated, he stays with some dimension-hopping Spiders as the Web-Warriors, whose tasks are to ensure the Inheritors remain on their jail planet and monitor threats to a variety of worlds from the Web of Life and Destiny.

Hot Off the Presses

After becoming the Spider-Man, he used his newfound abilities to threaten the Goblin and in so doing discovered Ben taking payment from the crook. In confronting Ben, calling him a drunk and junkie bought by the Goblin like a dog, he unwittingly revealed his alter ego to him.

Ashamed of his affiliation with the Goblin, Ben contacted Jonah to give incriminating evidence against the Goblin. Though his efforts are cut short when Jonah arrived at his door and murdered him with a revolver. Peter later received the evidence files from Ben’s former flame, Felicia Hardy, who also warned him against trusting Jonah.

At Ben’s funeral, Peter’s spidey sense confirmed that something was up with Jonah, so he confronted him in his Bugle office as the masked Spider-Man, but found him shot at his desk. Though when the police arrived, all they saw was a masked vigilante crouching over the Jonah’s body, gun in hand.

Accused of killing Jonah, the Spider-Man escaped. Pouring over Urich’s files to learn more about Goblin’s goons, he discovered there was one carnie missing from the bunch he had come to know, and found out that Jonah’s body in the morgue wasn’t Jonah at all. It was the half-brother of Kraven, Dmitri Smerdyakov, AKA The Chameleon, who could mold his features to imitate any subject. Meanwhile, the real J. Jonah Jameson was being held captive by the Goblin.

Peter returned home to find the Vulture attacking his Aunt May and came to her defense dressed as the Spider-Man. With a revolver, he shot the Vulture dead. May scolded him for killing the Vulture and not using his other abilities, so he left justifying what he did yet ashamed.

Her words stuck with him and when he caught up with the Goblin, he refused to kill him. Instead, Kraven, who had been previously enveloped by poisonous spiders, finished the job.

The Goblin and his cronies were brought to justice thanks to the late Urich, the public hero, and the Spider-Man’s undercover heroics. Jonah resumed his work at The Daily Bugle, while Aunt May returned to her soapbox. The Spider-Man paid a visit to the mourning Felicia who, when questioned about her relationship with the Goblin, revealed that he was also a former flame. Peter revealed his identity to her and handed her a photo of her and Ben Ulrich.

A few months after the Goblin’s death, the Spider-Man’s relationship with Felicia grew as organized crime cut through the streets of NYC and the American Nazi Party started to gain traction, promising a vision of a safer world. The Spider-Man found himself facing off with The Crime Master, a masked criminal who secured Goblin’s mantle as crime boss.

During his investigations as Peter, he met reporter Robbie Robertson who desired to investigate Doctor Otto Octavius, the scientist who was performing experiments on Ellis Island. When they met him, Octavius expressed racist scorn towards Robbie but Peter was nonplussed. Little did they know that African-Americans were being delivered there for human experimentation and supplied by The Crime Master. Robbie went missing shortly thereafter.

After suffering a beating at the hands of The Crime Master and his unstoppable enforcer, the Sandman, the Spider-Man linked them all to The Friends of New Germany. The Spider-Man traveled to Felicia’s to recover but she forced him to leave before another man arrived—the unmasked Crime Master whom she questioned. But the Crime Master brutally attacked Felicia for questioning him, leaving her scared across her face.

The Spider-Man then arrived too late to Ellis Island and found Robbie on Octavius’ operating table. Octavius disabled him in trying to prove that inferior races could be controlled by surgically removing their willpower. Despite this setback, the Spider-Man defeated Octavius who was deported to Germany. Felicia refused to see Peter and donned a mask to cover her injured face, while Robbie was left under the care of his parents. The Spider-Man felt guilty and alone, despite offers of comfort from his friend, Mary Jane Watson.

In 1939 while attending the New York World’s Fair with Mary Jane and his aunt May, and watching a performance by the Great Mysterio, Peter’s spider sense alerted him to danger, but he ignored it. Meanwhile, the Kingpin of Crime Mr. Fisk attempted to track down the Spider-Man through Felicia and ended up shooting her butler, who attempted to protect her. Capturing her, he used her to draw out the Spider-Man with Mysterio’s help. Using an ad placed in the Daily Bugle, Mysterio challenged the Spider-Man to make a blood sacrifice or the masked woman (Felicia) would be sacrificed in his place. His spider sense then became a jackhammer in his head, so he returned to the fair and confronted Mysterio, whose assistant drugged him. In front of a crowd, Mysterio placed the captured Spider-Man in a glass coffin, extracted blood before filling it with water, and goaded him to escape. Among the 500-person audience was Mr. Fisk. The Spider-Man was left for 10 minutes behind a curtain while the audience waited. Peter used his webbing to cover his mouth and nose, which gave him enough time to break his chains and the coffin. Escaping in front of the crowd, he knocked Mysterio to the ground and offered a full refund to the audience. While he helped release Felicia from her chains, the Inheritor Karn appeared on stage threatening an attack. It was then that the Superior Spider-Man (actually Otto Octavius, AKA Doctor Octopus, in Peter Parker, AKA Spider-Man’s body from Earth-616) saved him, and whisked him away to the future in 2099.

The Spider-Man joined the Superior Spider-Army and the larger Spider-Army against the totemic hunters known as the Inheritors—a vampiric family who sustained themselves on the life force of Spider-People. The Superior Spider-Army continued to gather Spider-Totems and the next on the list was from Earth-2818. There, they warned Peter Parker, the cyborg Spider-Man, of Karn’s imminent attack and then helped him escape an additional attack by Karn’s siblings Brix and Bora. The team regrouped in the year 2099.

As the insatiable Inheritors rampaged across the Multiverse, feasting upon the essence of Spiders, the Superior Spider-Army split up to recruit more Spiders. The Spider-Man joined Peter Parker, AKA Six-Armed Spider-Man (Earth-92100), and traveled to yet another reality in 2014 where that reality’s Peter Parker had an allergic reaction to his spider-bite that left him hospitalized and his aunt and uncle remained alive. The Spider-Man suggested they put him out of his misery but his six-armed partner reminded him that that wasn’t an option, and left to pursue a serum that could help their comatose “twin.” When the young Peter transformed into a furry spider-beast, the Spider-Man webbed him up for safety and met the Six-Armed Spider-Man on the hospital’s rooftop, where he administered the serum and cured the young Peter. Without the essence of a spider, the young Peter was safe from the Inheritors and the two Spiders activated their dimensional-hopping portal to rendezvous with the others.

The larger Spider-Army led by Billy Braddock, AKA Spider-UK, appeared to join the Superior Spider-Army in 2099, where the Spider-Man recognized them as friendlies on account of their costumes. As the two leaders fought over what to do next, they were tracked by the Inheritor Daemos who slayed cyborg Spider-Man. Superior killed Daemos but then he suddenly reappeared and snapped the neck of Earth-8351’s Peter Parker, AKA Assassin Spider-Man. Brix and Bora joined the fray and the Spider-Totems fled with the Spider-Man following Jessica Drew, AKA Spider-Woman, and Cindy Moon, AKA Silk, through a portal.

Since Silk attracted the Inheritors, the Spider-Man and Spider-Woman acted as her protectors but it didn’t last long and the twins, Brix and Bora, tracked them down. The Spider-Man fought them off but Bora broke some bones, knocking him out. Spider-Woman launched a speeder bike at the twins, and in the wake of the explosion, the trio escaped to the Spider-Man’s world of Earth-90214. They brought him to Felicia’s speakeasy where she took care of him.

After the Inheritors were defeated and jailed on a radioactive planet, the Spider-Man had recovered from his injuries. He joined the Web-Warriors alongside Spider-UK, Peter Porker, AKA Spider-Ham, Pavitr Prabhakar, AKA Spider-Man, Gwen Stacy, AKA Ghost-Spider, and Anya Corazon, AKA Spider-Girl, to protect the Web of Life and Destiny and mend its severed skeins across time and space.

When Earth-616 and Earth-1610 collided, the Multiverse was destroyed. All that remained was Battleworld, a patchwork planet run by Victor Von Doom, AKA Doctor Doom, who ruled with an iron will. Each region was a domain unto itself, and in one domain, the Web-Warriors weren’t sure where they fit in. The Spider-Man watched the Web-Warriors at a distance for months and intervened when their situation with Earth-22191’s Cletus Kasady, AKA Carnage, looked dire. They soon all faced the Sinister Six. Though they were defeated, they found themselves taken to Ozcorp where Norman Osborn asked them to analyze a strange energy field that they seemed to be connected to, which was simply called “The Web.” The Spider-Man and the others, except Gwen, agreed to examine the phenomenon. The Warriors soon figured out that Norman had planned to harness their power of the Web but a Thor arrived to destroy it and them on behalf of Doom. Peter Parker of that world joined the Warriors and using Thor’s electricity, messed with the device enough so that when Norman used it, it wouldn’t work, and instead rendered him potentially brain damaged. With the corrupt megalomaniac out of the way, the domain needed protecting and the Web-Warriors were resolved to share the responsibility.

When the Multiverse was restored, the Web-Warriors helped the ally they gained against the Inheritors, Karn, who was also the new Master Weaver, patrol the Web of Life and Destiny from Earth-001. Together, the protected this gateway to all of reality. They soon faced an army of interdimensional Electros that left Spider-UK and Mayday Parker, AKA Spider-Woman (Earth-982), stranded and separated from the rest of the team. In helping retrieve them, the Warriors inadvertently damaged the Web, causing realities to bleed together, and making their teleportation and communication devices unreliable. The Warriors were soon separated into different dimensions, with the Spider-Man, Spider-Man (Pavitr), and Spider-Ham landing in the Spider-Man’s homeworld of Earth-90214, but it had changed. Peter admitted he knew about it, too, having returned recently and found that some of his world had been replaced with something else. Pavitr theorized that something was wrong with the Web of Life and chastised Peter for not saying anything. Peter defended himself, being the suspicious reporter that he was, he revealed that he didn’t trust the team. But they had bigger fish to fry because in front of them was a building marked Oscorp, and Peter had already seen a man with that name die in a sewer.

The three Spider-Totems confronted the man in charge, who turned out to be Harry Osborn, who had claimed to be the Spider-Man of his world of Earth-22916. While the other members of the Web-Warriors fought the escaped Electros, Harry reversed engineered one of the Spiders teleportation devices, and dragging Pavitr and the Spider-Man with him, he traveled to Loomworld (Earth-001) to destroy the Web where Karn protected it. Spider-Ham secretly followed. Pavitr came to and warned Karn that Harry was out of his mind, but Karn faced Harry alone as Benjamin Parker (Earth-3145) took the Spider-Man and Pavitr to the others where they defeated the Electros and used the full electrical capacity of the Electro army, coupled with music from Hobie Brown, AKA Spider-Punk (Earth-138), and Ghost-Spider, they shook the whole web and disabled Harry. Though Karn was lost in the process, Spider-Ham was there to deliver justice to Harry. The Spider-Man alongside the Web-Warriors remained resolved to rise to any new challenges they might face.

Spider-Man then reunited with the Web-Warriors to confront Superior Octopus (formerly Superior Spider-Man) who sought immortality but inadvertently helped the Inheritors resurrect into their clone bodies. The Spider-Man heroically attempted to take out the Inheritor Cloning Engine, but was killed by Morlun the Inheritor, who drained him of his life force.

Though, the Spider-Man was soon resurrected by the same Spider-God that gave him his powers, who informed him that his service had not ended, and he soon teamed up with his Spider-Army ally Miles Morales, AKA Spider-Man, who needed his help to stabilize the Web of Life and Destiny. Miles asked for his help in tracking down the idol that gave Peter his powers. Once they found it, they came upon the Nazi Madame Strum, who had experimented upon the idol and used it to transform into a bee-like totem. Peter and Miles fought her off and in defeating her, Peter gave Miles the idol to help restore the Web.

Later, when Peter received word that one of the waitresses, Holly Babson, from The Black Cat Nightclub had turned up dead. He picked up the case and followed a cicada gemstone which was clutched in the dead girl’s hand. His investigation led him to a Byzantine museum curator and the dead girl’s sister, Dr. Huma Bergmann. After a flash attack outside his Aunt May’s house, Peter and Huma adventured together to solve the murder of her sister. They traveled to London where they were attacked by some brutes who ran off with the stone. They soon connected with a pilot named Harry, and they flew to Berlin, to find Huma’s ally Dr. Heinrich Hellstrom, but they find him dead. A sudden and familiar flash attack occurs above them, and it’s none other than the villainous Electro.

They were soon saved by Harry’s longtime family friend and spy Tony Stark, AKA Ironsides, who then hooked them up with intel, and a contact in Istanbul, Checkpoint Red, to help them on their journey. Flying to meet her, their aircraft ended up being debilitated by Electro. The Spider-Man hopped out and using his webs, redirected the plane from crashing and they eventually made it safely to Istanbul and met up with Checkpoint Red, who knew where Electro would be: a dig site in the desert, the Sixth Excavation of Uruk, AKA Babylon, where the stone originated from. Red warned them that their journey would be perilous as there were Nazis afoot. On their way through the desert by camel-back, they were indeed attacked by Nazis and Huma revealed herself to be one such enemy and put a gun to Peter’s head.

Suddenly, a sneak attack from Harry caught everyone by surprise as she was actually Hu-Ri, a Dora Milaje from Wakanda, the keeper of secrets and guardian of the tomb, protector of the lost treasure beneath the sand. She threw a spear at Huma, taking her down. The cavalry soon arrived in the form of Stark attacking from above in an aircraft. Using his webs to catch the plane as it fled, and grabbing Red and Hu-Ri, they made their escape. They soon arrived at a dig site where Hu-Ri shared the story of a powerful relic that the Dora Milaje were sworn to guard: the universe-ending M’Kraan crystal, which lay under the sand and the Nazi’s were after it. As the trio traversed the underground city of Babylon only to come up against a cicada stone-empowered Electro and Human, who was actually the Goddess Inanna. Though the Spider-Man gained some added powers from the stone, including additional arms, it eventually wore off.

Inanna used the stone to unlock the power of the M’Kraan crystal, she opened the portal to the underworld, bringing Spider-Man face-to-face with his once-dead foes. In battling them, he ended up falling and hallucinating being back in New York and face-to-face with Holly Babson, but actually the queen of the Underworld known as Ereshkigal, and the same Spider-God that endowed Peter with powers. She revealed to him that the cicada stone was the key to destroying the crystal and the only way to save the universe from her mad sister, Inanna. Coming to, he snatched the stone from Inanna and throwing it into the air, shot it with his revolver into the crystal, destroying them both, which also annihilated Inanna’s form. Peter, Hu-Ri and Checkpoint Red were picked up by Ironsides, returning to their respective homes.

Peter was later corrupted by Earth-001’s Shathra who used her Spider-Wasps to transform him into a Wasp-Totem. Tasked to attack his counterpart on Earth-616 as well as other Spider-Totems, this Wasp Peter was soon joined by others that were infected, such as Spider-Punk, Ghost-Spider, and Mayday Parker. Though Shathra was defeated by the Spider-Army and the Wasp-Totems reverted to their Spider-Totem selves.
