Pearl Pangan loves the water and is eventually endowed with water manipulation powers. The Filipina Super Hero uses her powers to defend and protect her home country of the Philippines and takes the codename Wave.
Swimming with Sharks
Growing up by the beach, Pearl Pangan swims before she walks, according to her lolo (Tagalog for “grandfather”). She loves the water and no one is a faster swimmer than Pearl. While she works at the fast food restaurant Mactan Fry King, she is approached by a representative from Alontek, a company conducting a study that needs swimmers. She participates in the study and gets paid well. While at the study, the lab is attacked by a group of individuals and as Pearl defends the lab, she manipulates the water and defends herself. She learns quickly that the attackers are the Triumph Division, a group of Super Heroes that defend the Philippines, and she has been working for the bad guys.
Triumph Division takes her in and help her master her powers, but Pearl feels they always keep an eye on her.
Hydrokinesis
Wave is able to manipulate water. When controlling the element, she can propel the liquid in various ways including lifting herself high up in the air and projecting it from her fists into powerful blasts. She can also sense changes in water temperature.
In addition to her powers, Wave has a keen technological prowess and is a capable fighter. She wears armor supplied by Triumph Division which is outfitted with fins along her back and that jut out from her feet which activate and aid in steering or stopping. She also uses her fins to create a whirlpool. Wave skillfully wields division-issued swords as well.
Native to the Philippines and growing up on Mactan Island, a part of Cebu province, Aero speaks Cebuano as well as English. She may also understand and speak Tagalog.
Fiery Enemy Forces
When the Dark Elf Malekith brings his War of the Realms to Midgard, Sindr, the Queen of Cinders and Msupelheim and daughter of Surtur, tries to transform Earth into her fiery hellscape. She uses her Fire Goblins and Flames of Msupelheim to attack the Pacific Rim, and Wave faces the mad Asgardian God alongside the new Agents of Atlas.
Pearl’s Super Hero Partners
Wave joins the Triumph Division, a group of Super Heroes led by Red Feather. Though she initially tries to fight them off, not realizing she works for the wrong side, they take her in and help her learn how to master her powers and defend her homeland of the Philippines.
She later joins Lei Ling, AKA Aero, against Sindr’s Goblins of Msupelheim in the North Pacific and the duo is joined by Tūtū Pele, AKA Pele the Hawaiian Goddess of fire. In fighting Queen Sindr and her forces, the trio joins Lin Lie, AKA Sword Master, and the new Agents of Atlas, a secret society formed under the Atlas Foundation and team of Super Heroes led by former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Jimmy Woo and current headmaster of the Pan-Asian School for the Unusually Gifted. The team members she fights alongside include the super-smart, super-strong Amadeus Cho, AKA Brawn, the Master of Kung Fu Shang-Chi, and Cindy Moon, AKA Silk.
Wave and Atlas also team up with Ami Han, AKA White Fox, of South Korea’s National Intelligence Service, Dan Bi, AKA Crescent, the magic bear Io, and Seol Hee, AKA Luna Snow.
Making Waves
Based in Cebu City and while working alongside the Triumph Division, she felt something in the water and the North Pacific, 5,000 miles outside the team’s jurisdiction. When she arrived, Aero arrived as well and questioned why she was there since she sensed a disturbance in the wind. While Wave felt it in the water and they witnessed a whirlpool form, she believed something was down below. When she parted the waters, a small volcano erupted and the two of them were blown onto land and greeted by Sindr, Queen of Cinders and her army of Firelords. When they realized they were tricked into leaving their cities, the fire goddess Pele appeared and offered an assist against the monsters from Msupelheim.
Wave could hear her teammates calling her back to Manila over her comms device, while Aero heard from Shanghai—both cities were being attacked by the same fiery forces. The trio traveled to Shanghai alongside Sword Master and battled Sindr’s army until they were suddenly transported to Seoul, Korea by the new Agents of Atlas’ de facto leader Amadeus. Atlas saw them over the Atlas Flyspies and asked for their help at their new staging ground in Siberia because Sindr had taken over Seoul. Wave expressed reluctance to join, eager to return to and protect her home, but Pele conveyed Sindr’s plan to melt the ice caps and the importance of the heroes banding together against the threat.
Wave joined Woo and his Atlas team in Siberia and they planned an attack on Sindr and shared a meal, comprised of Spam, altogether—Wave enjoyed Spamsilog. When Sindr and her forces opened up a portal to the Arctic, Wave, Aero, and Luna Snow went through before Sindr’s army could do so thanks to a distraction from Brawn. Once in the Arctic, Wave felt Sindr already warming the North Pole in the water which was 20 degrees warmer than it should have been and feared for her lolo’s life as she understood that a change so drastic in the Arctic would flood Cebu. Wave created a whirlpool and activated her armored fins to assist while Aero and Luna combined their powers to reduce the Arctic air temperature. While in the North Pole, Wave received a call from Red Feather, her commanding officer on Triumph Division ordering her to come home but she refused because she was fighting the same fight elsewhere.
As Aero and Luna continued to lower the temperature, Sindr’s forces were relentless so Wave used her division-issued swords to fend them off. As Wave fought off monsters, the rest of the Atlas team stopped Sindr and sent her forces through the Black Bifrost back to Msupelheim.
After the battle, Wave was 500 miles away from Manila making waves which Aero sensed. Surprised when Aero arrived at her side, Wave told her that she had been kicked out of Triumph Division for abandoning her post. Aero, about to fly back and inform her team that what she was doing in the North Pole was just as important, was stopped by Wave. She then recounted her history joining the team and believed that they didn’t trust her. The division’s leader Red Feather soon joined them and demanded her swords and armor returned, but Aero defended Wave with a wind blast knocking him back.
