Justice, like lightning, takes many forms—and so does the super team known as the Thunderbolts. Ever since the Thunderbolts debuted as a group of villains posing as heroes, the team has evolved in startlingly different ways, with each iteration boasting its own roster, leaders, and mission statement. The Original Team

When the Avengers and the Fantastic Four disappear, the Thunderbolts step in to fill the void. Too bad it's all a ruse! In the team's shocking debut, Baron Zemo assembles a group of villains to pose as heroes and earn the public's trust for his own devious ends. Unfortunately for him, some members of the team enjoy the hero life a little too much...

The New Thunderbolts

In New Thunderbolts (2004) #1

MACH-IV, the villain previously known as Beetle, forms his own team after the original group breaks up. This puts them on a collision course with Zemo, who attempts his original Thunderbolts plan with a new set of villains.

Thunderbolts Army

In Thunderbolts (2006) #103

As part of Iron Man's efforts to enforce the Superhuman Registration Act during CIVIL WAR, Baron Zemo unleashes the Thunderbolts Army, which is tasked with hunting down vigilantes operating without government permission.

Norman Osborn's Thunderbolts
