9 Great Daughters of the Dragon Stories
Misty Knight and Colleen Wing have punched and kicked their way through some classic tales.
They kick butt and take names like nobody else, and they like it that way. They’re the Daughters of the Dragon, and they’re back in a new Marvel Digital Original series heading your way this November by writer Jed Mackay and artist Travel Foreman. On top of that, Jessica Henwick and Simone Missick continue to play live action incarnations of the characters, inspired by their comics counterparts, in “Marvel’s Iron Fist” Season 2, debuting Friday, February 7 on Netflix.
Misty Knight and Colleen Wing both bend steel to their will—Misty with her bionic arm and Colleen with her sword—but their experience as one of the Marvel Universe’s most fascinating fighting duos has taught them there’s usually more than one way to solve a problem. Here’s a few of their best kicks - the comic book stories that made the Daughters of the Dragon who they are today.
DEADLY HANDS OF KUNG FU #32 - #33
Misty Knight and Colleen Wing kicked off their partnership with a trip to Japan to investigate the murder of Colleen’s grandfather and wound up facing off against two baddies, Chung and Vachan, to get to the bottom of it all. This case led to the women forming their own private investigation firm, Knightwing Restorations Ltd.
MARVEL TEAM-UP #64
When Davos, the Steel Serpent, stole Iron Fist Danny Rand’s mystical powers, Colleen and Misty leapt into the fray to defend him, holding their own with a little help from Spider-Man until Iron Fist rallied his remaining chi to wrest his hard-won prize back from the snake.
UNCANNY X-MEN #118 - #119
The Daughters of the Dragon found themselves back in Japan and helping the X-Men, with a recommendation from the Prime Minister. Alongside the mutant heroes, they battled Moses Magnum to stem the tide of his desire to crush the island nation and won the day.
POWER MAN AND IRON FIST #117 - #118
With Danny Rand dying from a mysterious ailment, Colleen decided to break her ties with her partner over Misty’s relationship with Tyrone King—secretly the villainous Master Khan. Wing then followed Iron Fist to the otherworldly city of K’un-Lun, where she slew a dragon to save him.
DAUGHTERS OF THE DRAGON #1 - #6
Back together again, Misty and Colleen set up shop together as bondswomen and bounty hunters. The duo quickly fell into a sordid affair chasing after a group of low-tier crooks and the super villains who also sought them.
HEROES FOR HIRE #1
At the request of Tony Stark, in the aftermath of the Super Hero Civil War, the Daughters organized Black Cat, Humbug, Paladin, Shang-Chi, and others into the semblance of a team to bring in any pertinent individuals who refused to sign the Superhuman Registration Act.
HEROES FOR HIRE #14 - #15
While the newly-returned-from-space-and very-angry Hulk waged war against those he believed wronged him, Misty rescued Colleen from the Hulk’s Warbound, a group of alien gladiators who fought at ol’ Jade Jaws’ side. Unfortunately, Wing suffered from shock due to being tortured by the Warbound and once again left Knight to try to recover.
THE IMMORTAL IRON FIST #9 - #11
Misty and Colleen agreed to lend a hand to their old friend Luke Cage to assist Danny Rand against another assault by the Steel Serpent—this time aided and abetted by Hydra. This case also brought them back to K’un-Lun once more when Hydra attempted to invade the city.
SHADOWLAND #2
Joining forces again with Iron Fist and Luke Cage, as well as a small group of other heroes, the Daughters of the Dragon worked to convince Daredevil to abandon his role as the ruler of Hell’s Kitchen and the dark path he trod to achieve it.
